World's Leading Computer Companies Join New Xilinx AllianceDeskTop Partner Program

Charter Members Dell, HP, Sun Microsystems Offer Programmable Logic and System Designers Scalable, High-Performance Workstation Support for Xilinx ISE 5.1i Design Environment

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xilinx, Inc. , the market leader in programmable logic solutions, today announced that the world's premier technical computing infrastructure companies have joined its new AllianceDeskTop partner program. Charter members Dell, HP, and Sun Microsystems(TM) are teaming with Xilinx to provide programmable logic and system designers with scalable, high- performance workstation support for the latest release of the company's ISE (integrated system environment) design software, ISE 5.1i. As an industry-wide popular methodology for programmable logic design, Xilinx ISE installed base includes design seats running on Windows, UNIX and Linux.

Through the AllianceDeskTop program, Xilinx and its partners will work together to provide optimal software and hardware performance for programmable IC and system design, throughout the development cycle (e.g., IC and system design entry, simulation, verification and debug). For development and production testing of ISE software, Xilinx is using Dell Precision(TM) Workstations with dual Intel(R) Xeon(TM) Processors, hp xw line of Intel-based workstations with up to 12GB of RAM in a single dual Xeon system, and Sun Microsystems Sun Fire 280R servers with UltraSPARC(R) III processors running the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment. As part of the partnership, the companies also have the option to collaborate with Xilinx on joint sales and marketing programs.

"The new AllianceDeskTop program is right in line with our strategy to partner with world-class companies to provide engineers with complete, integrated solutions for CPLD and FPGA-based system design," said Babak Hedayati, senior director for Solutions Marketing and Partnerships at Xilinx. "We're delighted to formalize our longtime working relationships with Dell, HP and Sun Microsystems to ensure that our mutual customers can maximize ISE software performance. Together, we're making it possible for experienced system engineers to conceive and implement complete electronic product designs on desktop or laptop systems, using sophisticated EDA tools."

"Our line of Dell Precision workstations is a great match for customers with highly-complex applications, including programmable IC and system design," said Joe Curley, senior marketing manager for Dell Precision workstations. "Xilinx ISE software leverages the performance of the Dell Precision 650 and 450 workstations' dual Xeon(TM) processors and 4.2 Gigabytes of dual-channel DDR memory to design CPLDs, which range from 32 macrocells to more than 8 million system gates."

"HP has built our reputation with the engineering community by providing the highest levels of performance, memory capacity, and reliability in our products. The growing prevalence of FPGA-based design as a cost-effective alternative to traditional ASICs continues that drive in product features," added Sam Giovinazzi, North America EDA Market Manager at HP. "As an AllianceDeskTop partner, our goal is to offer FPGA designers the benefits of Xilinx ISE software optimized for HP platforms -- ultimately, enabling them to get to market faster."

"Today's increasingly complex electronic devices benefit greatly from the flexibility of Xilinx field programmable devices," said Peter Denyer, group manager of Technical Market Development at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Xilinx products running on scalable and powerful Sun platforms will enable engineers to produce extremely complex FPGAs and reduce time-to-market for products that employ those devices."

With $1.02B in revenues in FY2002, Xilinx is the fifth largest ASIC/PLD company worldwide, according to Dataquest. The company offers customers the industry's broadest product offering, ranging from sophisticated Virtex-II Series platform FPGAs for programmable systems, with more than 8-million gates, and low-cost, high-performance Spartan Series FPGAs, to high performance, low-power CPLDs targeted at consumer markets.

About Xilinx ISE version 5.1i software environment

The latest version of Xilinx programmable logic and system design environment -- ISE 5.1i -- provides designers with "ASIC-strength" tools to exploit the power of Virtex-II Pro silicon, which ranges in device densities from 40,000 to more than eight million system gates. Designers are benefiting from a 2X improvement in compile times (an increase from 100,000 to 200,000 gate/min) and a 40 percent gain in device speeds over last year's software release.

About the AllianceDeskTop program

Xilinx is the #1 PLD supplier with more than a 50 percent market segment share. As an industry-wide popular methodology for programmable logic design, Xilinx ISE installed base includes more than 150,000 design seats running on Windows, UNIX and Linux. Through the company's AllianceDeskTop program (http://www.xilinx.com/desktops), Xilinx and its partners work together to ensure that designers have access to optimally configured workstations for fast design completion using ISE design software within a cost-effective design environment.
